DescriptionA Fossilized Megalodon Shark Tooth
South Carolina, USA
6 h x 4-3/4 w x 1-1/4 d inches (15 x 11.9 x 3.1 cm) (overall)
Fossil shark teeth from the prehistoric apex predator Megalodon are characterized by several qualities, all exemplified by this major example including the large size, fine serrations, V-shaped neck, triangular shape and robust structure. Megalodon teeth can be much larger than those of a modern Great White.
Length is a key factor when analyzing fossil shark teeth, and Megalodon dentition is some of the most highly sought after due to the relatively large sizes of multiple examples. This tooth is extremely huge, measuring some 6 (15 cm) on edge - which is how "Meg" teeth are measured. Like so many fossils, the piece does exhibit considerable restoration, but repairs are not always common with teeth.
