1992-93 Michael Jordan Game Worn & Signed Chicago Bulls Sneakers. The elite athletes of American sports history have emerged from rural farms, from crumbling inner cities, even from orphanages, but all have shared a common drive, a fierce competitiveness that served as the fuel powering ascent to the pantheon. But often that fuel creates a toxic by-product that reminds us that discretion is often the better part of valor, and that single-minded determination is not without its dangers. Many blame the head injuries suffered during Lou Gehrig's streak for his tragic decline, and certainly Muhammad Ali was forever diminished by the beatings endured during his late, ill-advised battles against father time.

When Michael Jordan retired suddenly in October 1993, not long after completing a glorious three-season NBA Championship run, and suffering the tragic and mysterious murder of his father, many identified an apparent gambling addiction as the dark side of his own competitive drive. Hanging up his Nikes at the absolute height of his profession, Jordan confounded a basketball world struggling to make sense of the stunning desertion. It would be no hyperbole to consider this glorious and terrible time to be the biggest turning point in the life of the sport's greatest figure.

Consequently, educated collectors are particularly drawn to relics bearing this special vintage, a season that nearly left the second act of the greatest story in modern basketball unwritten. This well-worn pair of Air Jordan VIII's are consigned with a letter on Bulls letterhead identifying the shoes as "Michael Jordan autographed game-worn sneakers from the 1992-93 championship season." While Jordan would commonly change shoes after every game upon his return from that premature retirement, the offered pair clearly exhibits multiple games of action from the third of Jordan's six NBA Championship seasons. Each shoe is labeled size "13" at interior tongue with "920112 FT2" coding. The right shoe is autographed in 9/10 black sharpie on th PROVENANCE:
