This illustration was reproduced on page 86 in Vargas by Alberto Vargas and Reid Austin, 1978 as well as on page 125 in Playboy Magazine 'Collector's Edition', 1994.

Anna Mae Clift posed often for Alberto Vargas from the mid 20's. When they married in 1930, a New York Graphic columnist announced: "Albert Vargas, noted society artist, and Anna Mae Clift, famous model, eloped a month ago."

"Intrusion" was published in Playboy Magazine 'Collector's Edition' January 1994 in an article about Vargas. It was featured on a full page together with text: "They're always asking me why I draw only girls," Vargas once said. "If they can find me a substitute for a beautiful girl, I'll draw whatever it is. So far, no one's come up with anything." The shoes were most likely added later for the publication in Playboy.

A copy of the magazine and the San Francisco Art Exchange certificate of authenticity accompany this lot.
