    Woolly Rhinoceros Horn
    Coelodonta antiquitatis

Horns from the Woolly Rhinoceros are extremely rare as the creatures were covered with hair related to the harsh "Ice Age" environment they inhabited. Their horns were comprised of matted hair, rather than bone, making fossilization problematic. The beastly mammals were well adapted to the wintry environs, and Coelodonta antiquitatis was a distant relative to the Sumatran Rhinoceros. The complete example is nicely preserved, with a subtle curvature and fibrous texture. The rough exterior exhibits superficial and expecting fractures, but the specimen is solid and extremely fine from the end to the worn down tip. An impressive and uncommon offering, this represents an unusual fossil variety. The piece displays several color tones of brown and features a somewhat flattened shape consistent with the unique type of fossil.
