    Description

    TRICERATOPS BROW HORN
    Triceratops horridus
    Cretaceous, Hell Creek Formation
    Montana, USA

Across the board, there is probably no Dinosaur more popular than the iconic Triceratops ("three-horned face"), so easily recognizable by its horns, especially by its two protruding brow horns. Whether the horns were used as a true defense mechanism to ward off predators in combat or for display in courtship, which is becoming more generally accepted as the primary function, the horns from this herbivorous ceratopsian are its most recognizable feature. This particular specimen, a brow horn from Triceratops horridus, is very impressive and is in exceptional condition. This massive brow horn is quite large and exhibits phenomenal "skin" texture in its preservation. Measuring 27 inches (68.58 cm) from end to tip, this massive piece gives an idea of the magnitude of the ancient beast from which it came. The rind of the horn is not uniform over the entire specimen allowing for deeper viewing into its inner core, which is fully mineralized as is the skin. The piece represents an excellent way to own a key Triceratops fossil without buying the whole Dinosaur.
    Overall Measurements: 26 x 7 x 5.25 inches (66.04 x 17.78 x 13.34 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
