    Paprok, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan
The rainbow tinted Tourmalines of Afghanistan are justly famous as objects of almost religious appreciation. Upping the ante by a considerable amount is the much less frequently seen combination of fine Afghani Tourmaline with sharp and lustrous Smoky Quartz. Not that Quartz isn't a frequent associate of Tourmaline, it is - but most of it is pale or damaged and doesn't hold up its end of the aesthetic union. Here is a pair of Smoky Quartz crystals 14 cm (5½ inches) long that would be quite desirable in their own right, flanking gemmy and lustrous Tourmaline prisms bearing three distinct color bands: pink, green and back to pink at the terminations. The Tourmaline is 13 cm (5+ inches) long from base to tip and 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter. Nestled low and to the side of the Tourmaline, is a violet hued group of pearly Lepidolite crystals. Quite a combination for one specimen and one, rarely seen in such excellent condition. The group measures 6 x 4½ x 3 inches overall and has a custom labeled base.
