SPECTACULAR AND COLORFUL TIGER IRON TABLETOP

This spectacular Tiger Iron tabletop from the remote Ord Ranges near Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia is actually a banded iron formation, or "jaspilite," with alternating layers of black and brown Hematite/Magnetite, red Jasper and golden Tiger's Eye. This Tiger's Eye, so prized and sought after, is characterized by a classic chatoyant "cat's eye" effect of optical reflectance usually seen in gemstones, where it was first applied as far back as 1816. This material, from an even more remote location than its ostensibly better known counterpart Tiger's Eye, has the added bonus of function as well as form as it has been made into a tabletop adding a practical component to this special rock which is obviously every bit as beautiful as its Tiger's Eye cousin. This absolutely phenomenal tabletop features a myriad of brilliant colors in an array of undulating waves cascading across the surface in lines of fire red, golden yellow, gun metal silver and muted chocolate brown. The pattern is captivating and gives the overall piece the look of some contemporary work of art rather than natural piece of stone carved into a tabletop. With smooth, rounded edges and corners that add to the elegance of this highly decorative specimen, this Tiger Iron tabletop is going to enhance any environment or décor. It measures a nice 44.5 x 27.25 inches (113.03 x 69.22 cm).
