Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia

"A sharp pointed fairly transparent sharp crystal showing the good purple/blue dichroism. Bought the specimen from Clive Queit in Tsumeb. The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm."
    - Rock H. Currier

For an Iron mineral that shows up in a lot of Arsenopyrite associated ore bodies, it is surprising how few decent crystals of this mineral there are. Mexico, Japan and Namibia have furnished the bulk of the "specimen grade" material seen in the marketplace over the years. The Namibian occurrence is at Tsumeb, where it forms large and sharply defined crystals of considerable size. Scorodite crystals often show varying degrees of pleochroism, sometimes quite striking in their dichroism. This exceptional 'thumbnail' specimen is a textbook example displaying blue to purple color change with a bit of an odd green at the edges.
