    N'Chwaning Mines, Kuruman
    Kalahari manganese field, Northern Cape
    South Africa

This is a classic mineral from a universally renowned locality, Rhodochrosite from the N'Chwaning Mines out of the Kalahari Manganese Field in South Africa. The elegant material is prized for its scalenohedral crystals and rich red coloration. This robust offering consists of intensely attractive, well-formed, sharp crystals of highly saturated cherry-red coloration in a pleasing spray-like formation on a dramatic black Manganite matrix. A few of the larger, translucent crystals measures up to approximately 1.04 inches (2.65 cm) in length. This top example was mined back in 1980 and displays the coveted "cherry-red" hue loved by collectors. When these pieces were mined back in the 1980s, the miners were not very careful, which meant a lot of the specimens that materialized were highly damaged. This fine example is in overall good condition for the massive size and color represented. There is some minor contacting around the edge, which is common with most of these, and a few missing points, but overall this is an outstanding collector-grade specimen from a noted locality. This showy example is also accompanied by an engraved custom acrylic base.
    Measurements: 3.69 x 2.52 x 1.91 inches (9.38 x 6.39 x 4.86 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
