Opalized Fossil Wood Limb
Bonanza Opal Mine
Virgin Valley, Humboldt Co.
Virgin Valley Opal is a classic material in the minds of serious collectors, coming from a locality considered nothing less than iconic. This truly spectacular specimen collected by the owner of the Bonanza Mine in 2014 from a proprietary location without public access is nothing short of unbelievable. The smooth polished log section measures nearly 15 inches (38 cm) in length and displays several beautiful indentations and a pronounced "knot" as well as superb preservation of the original wood. However, it is a massive patch of colorful milky Opal that is the difference maker on this exquisite representation from the vaunted location in Humboldt County, Nevada. Opalized wood is very rare, and a specimen of this size and quality is almost unheard of with its contrast of wood against vivid color and of course the quality and coverage of its Opal segment.
Overall Measurements: 14.37 x 3.94 x 3.35 x inches (36.50 x 10.00 x 8.50 cm)
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
Estimate: $80,000 - $120,000.
