    Mosasaur Skull
    Tylosaurus proriger
    Late Cretaceous
Smoky Hill Chalk Member, Niobrara Formation
    Kansas, USA

One of the apex predators of the great Western Interior Seaway during the Late Cretaceous, Tylosaurus features an elongated snout. Unlike other mosasaurs, Tylosaurus did not have teeth all the way forward on the premaxilla as the bony protuberance was free to teeth. This outstanding specimen exhibits minor restoration that has not been painted to disguise it indicative of classic paleo techniques. This exquisite skull is a beautiful brown color and showcases an amazing set of sharp, conical teeth. This skull has a bit of a compression slant, which is typical in vertebrate examples, but - in this case - the tilt actually works to orient the skull on the custom metal stand to highlight the entire skull from a single vantage point. As mosasaur skulls go, this is a high quality specimen that makes an impressive and impactful presentation. However, the most important issue of relate to this fine fossils concerns the provenance. The legendary George Sternberg collected and prepared this specimen in the early 1900's. This is obviously significant.
