    Description

    Mammoth Tusk
    Mammuthus primigenius
    Pleistocene
    Alaska

Terms like "museum quality" and "truly spectacular" are often overused when describing specimens of a superlative nature, but they really do apply in the case of this unparalleled Mammoth Tusk. The example presented here has several key characteristics which make it compelling and collectible. The piece has a great deal of color with prominent veins of blue covering virtually most of the relatively smooth surface. This tusk has a substantial curvature and almost wraps back up on itself which allows for a fairly vertical display of significant impact and drama. The tusk fits securely into a black painted wooden base that has been designed to hold the "tooth" in place by simply using counterbalancing with the tusk's own weight. This beautiful specimen is from Alaska which is known for producing some of the finest Mammoth Tusks in the world. This major example measures a whopping 83.5 inches (212 cm) on the curve but will fit in a relatively small space given that its outer dimensions in the stand are only a mere 37 x 45 x 16 inches (94 x 114 x 41 cm)! Restoration on the tusk was expertly performed, and areas of visible repair are minimal.
