    Altas Mountains, Morocco

Ironically, this Ammonoid cephalopod survived the mass extinction at the end of the Late Devonian only to end up getting eradicated in the big one at the end of the Permian, after flourishing for hundreds of millions of years. As these creatures are not actually Ammonites, they do not display the complex suture lines and marginal "siphuncles" characteristic of that very well-known group. This piece has been cut and polished to highlight the original shape and coloration of the fossilized shell, and it has been engineered to securely rest upon a slab of rock from the same location that contains dozens of Orthoceras sp. Being a rather large specimen it is superbly adapted to serve as an attractive display piece for any residential or commercial décor. The prominent black of the shell supplies a stark contrast to the white areas scattered throughout the specimen, especially the "goniatitic" suture pattern, resulting in a highly decorative item from the now vanished oceans of the Sahara Desert.
    Overall Measurements: 12 x 10.5 x 6 inches (30.48 x 26.67 x 15.24 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
