James Watson Signed Book with DNA Sketch
    The Double Helix
    First Edition

This offering consists of a signed First Edition hardcover of "The Double Helix" by James D. Watson who, along with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins, won the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for an iconic discovery - the double helix structure of the DNA molecule. This hardcover represents a rare 1968 version of which Watson stopped signing years ago, due to value concerns. The nominal price of $5.95 on the inside flap confirms it is a true First Edition, and the back of the Title Page does not list any subsequent printings also confirming that it is a true first printing.

In addition to his autograph, there is a sketch of the "double helix" by Watson adding to the rarity and special nature of this offering. The drawing on a bookplate is special, since Watson more commonly drew those sketches on index and business cards. The hardcover is in fair condition and comes in a dust jacket with some visible wear and aging as well as some discoloration due to age and light exposure. The combination of the sketch with a signature on a book is a unique treasure, and Watson has, for the most part, withdrawn from public life.
