    Description

    HEMATITE
    Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil

That Hematite and Rutile get along together is easily seen in this two-component specimen, where the mirror-faced Hematite shares the same crystallographic orientation as the Rutile, growing together in a hexagonal pattern that is quite unique to this pairing. Golden needles of Rutile, TiO2, reveal themselves at the edges of the black Hematite mirrors, otherwise they stay hidden within. As has been noted before, Hematite in any crystalline form is uncommon and this high level of perfection is extremely rare on the planet. There are a number of breaks and dings, but with all of that, this 2.5 inch (6.2 cm) Hematite blade has few peers for luster and size.
    Overall measurements: 4 x 3 x 2 inches (10.2 x 7.6 x 5.1 cm).

Provenance: The Rocksmiths [Hoppel # D0773]
