    Gold Nugget "Lightning Bolt"

Simply put, Gold is universal. The iconic precious metal has been prized for centuries by people all over the world, and the inherently "magical" mineral has served as a store of value, a measure of worth, and a symbol of status throughout most of human history. In fact, Gold is such a rare commodity, that it has been estimated that ALL of the Gold EVER mined on Earth would fit into a cube of 20 meters! Given that the vast majority of all Gold produced has been melted down for sheer content alone, the mere fact that Gold nuggets exist is something special. Moreover, even most Gold nuggets have been melted down as part of a process to convert them to more utilitarian forms. Basically, Gold nuggets are FAR rarer than Diamonds! Only a scant 2% of all Gold mined is in the form of nuggets making the variety alone extremely rare, and large nuggets are obviously an even more singular occurrence. This truly superb, one-of-a-kind nugget is enormous, measuring nearly 11 inches (28 cm) in length and weighing an astounding 1,241 grams, or an unfathomable 39.9 troy ounces, in total. A nugget this large, coupled with its incredible "Lightning Bolt" aesthetic appearance, is absolutely an incomprehensible treasure of global proportions. This example is beyond compare and is definitively worthy of any museum or private collection in the world. This piece stands as the highlight Lot of this auction, which is why it was chosen to be the Cover Lot in the catalog. This spectacular Gold nugget "Lightning Bolt" features an elongated twisted form, with a dynamic flair. The gigantic, near 40 ounce, example is truly something to behold and literally glows as the result of professional cleaning. The complex, textural and bright surface is punctuated with several small holes, which gives the natural heavy metal spike, with only minimal visible Quartz crystals, an added attribute. This is a top quality Gold nugget from Victoria, Australia - a locality which produces the best examples in the world.
    Overall Measurements: 10.63 x 2.36 x 1.43 inches (27.00 x 6.00 x 3.64 cm), total weight 1,241 grams (39.9 oz t)
