    Gold in Quartz
    Mother Lode Belt

California's Mother Lode Region is among the most famous gold mining areas in the world. Since Gold was discovered there on the American River in 1848, well over a hundred lode mines have yielded many incredible specimens of crystallized Gold. These rich, hard-rock Gold deposits lay in a swath measuring some 1 to 4 miles wide by 120 miles long.

This began with the discovery of Gold in sands and gravels of streambeds. Miners followed the Gold-bearing sands upstream to discover the original source still trapped in the . This source was the "mother" of the Gold found in the river and so was dubbed the "mother."

This specimen features an aesthetic mass of the rich, bright-yellow crystalline Gold which has been exposed from its encapsulating milky white Quartz veined rock. This is an outstanding, display quality Gold specimen - characteristic of the treasures found in California's Mother Lode.
