    Giant Ground Sloth Claw
    Eremotherium rusconi
    Florida, USA

The largest variety of the Giant Ground Sloths, Eremotherium was a mammalian monster growing up to 20 feet (6 meters) and weighing more than 3 tons. This toe claw is thick, and robust, measuring some 8 inches (20 cm) and is a serious representation of the variety. From deposits in Florida dating to the "Ice Age" known as the Pleistocene, the superlative claw is presented in a custom metal stand. The example was collected by famous 'fossil hunter' Vito Bertucci and is rather complete, with one stabilized fracture and minor expected restoration. The brownish offering is exemplary from the tip to the massive sockets.
    Overall Measurements: 5.51 x 2.56 x 8.00 inches (14.00 x 6.50 x 20.32 cm)

Provenance: The Property from an East Coast Collection
Bonhams, San Francisco, May 31, 1998 (lot 7225)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
