    Description

    Gemstone: Colemanite - 8.09 Cts.
    California, USA

Carat weight might be the most universally critical factor in describing gemstones, but it is very much of a relative measure, depending on the variety of material being evaluated. For example, this specimen is just over 8 carats, which might not be big for some varieties, but it turns out this is believed to be the second largest gem Colemanite in the world! With a beautiful trilliant shape, this gemstone is incredibly elegant with glassy luster and a diamond-like appearance. The borate mineral from evaporate deposits is actually an ore of boron. Of particular note, Colemanite is extremely soft and even water soluble. It is hard to comprehend that such a seemingly "industrial" material could be turned into such a work of gemstone artistry as with this simply gorgeous triangular shaped offering. The clear and vitreous gemstone features serious depth and sparkles in the light thanks to bold faceting. For a clear gemstone, of uncommon material, this is superb.
