Gemstone: Black Opal - 1.48 Cts.
    Lightning Ridge, Finch Co.
    New South Wales

Sometimes referred to as the "The Queen of Gems," Black Opal is easily the most valuable of all the Opal varieties. Most of the world's production of these "rainbow stones" comes from a single location in New South Wales: Lightning Ridge. These Opals tend not to be completely black in color but are typically just dark in body color as is the case with this dark gray stone. This "black" background provides a darkened stage for the fiery hues flashing from the interior with an almost electrical intensity. This lovely pear shaped cabochon presents that dramatic interplay all across its surface and comes ablaze with flashes of vibrant electric pink, blue, purple, orange and red. This gemstone is in pristine condition and has a flat cut bottom.
    Measurements: 13.88 x 6.90 x 2.53 mm, 1.48 cts.

    Provenance: The Jena Blue Collection

    Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.
