    Eurypterus remipes
    Silurian
    Fiddler Green Formation
    Herkimer County, New York, USA

Dating all the way back to the Silurian, approaching an amazing 400 million years ago, Eurypterids lived a simple aquatic existence. The relatively massive, ancient arthropods were aggressive predators and even included the largest members of the variety to have lived. This virtually complete specimen exhibits nice preservation and features an extended telson. The brown fossil sits in contrast with the greenish-gray rock.
