    Fossil Crinoid Plate
    Seirocrinus subangularis & Pentacrinites sp.
    Posidonienschiefer Formation
    Holzmaden, Germany

This spectacular fossil specimen is as impactful and decorative as it is important and collectible. A truly artistic piece, this is considered the best of only a quartet of examples prepared in this attractive form. From the Holzmaden Lagerstätte of Germany, this Jurassic representation consists of two pyritized and unique Crinoid varieties set in a charcoal black matrix with a dynamic free-form shape. Representations of Seirocrinus, which would attach itself to driftwood in a pelagic lifestyle, and Pentacrinites wonderfully placed in a harmonic positioning form a visually compelling work of prehistoric art. The added bonus of the fossils preserving in a metallic mineralization further serves to enhance the appearance of this large specimen. Prepared by noted paleontologist and fossil hunter Raimund Albersdorfer, this glorious piece comes ready for wall hanging with metal channels securely placed into the back of the extremely heavy, and relatively thick, rock. This wonder is certain to be the centerpiece in any décor where it is displayed. From the acclaimed Posidonia Shale, fossils from such German deposits are becoming harder to acquire.

While I regret my inability to personally view the work, you provided an excellent substitute for my not being able to do so, and I look forward to future Heritage auctions.
