    Description

    Fossil Bison Skull
    Bison priscus
    Pleistocene
    Alaska, USA

This partial skull of a Steppe Bison is obviously not fully complete but definitely does not lack visual impact. The blackish-brown offering has a solid skull plate and thick robust horns from the head out to irregular, open and jagged ends. The form is rather majestic and quite rustic. The underside is complex with numerous spaces and chambers in contrast to the top surface which is relatively smooth over the skull surface anchoring the two horns which exhibit the typical and concentric layered growth patterns. The nature of the fossil dating to the 'Ice Age' and representing the ancient bison coupled with the look of the piece with its naturally "Old West" appearance is quite a combination. The plate of the skull ends in partial semi-circle, thick eye sockets, which flare out to the side. This partial is still easily recognizable. This massive fossil comes with a custom, black metal display base, making presentation easy and secure.
    Overall Measurements: 33.46 x 15.35 x 7.09 inches (85.00 x 39.00 x 18.00 cm)

It would indeed have been much simpler to work with a local auction house, and we had local options. But we never once regretted going with Heritage.
