    Shangbao Mine, Leiyang Co.
    Hengyang, Hunan

While not the typical complex variety of Fluorite for which the vaunted Shangbao Mine is so known to serious collectors, this more "normal" example is anything but common. A network of superb crystals with prominent zoning, clear faces but frosted edges and modified octahedral form characterizes this superlative specimen with some minor matrix. The highly transparent Fluorite boasts a 'grape' purple consistent coloration amid numerous individual well-formed crystals of varying size, the largest of the geometric forms measuring 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) on edge. This is one highly aesthetic cluster likely from the 1990s and, obviously, an unusual style for the mine. In perfect condition, this offering features an array of interesting crystals and intriguing colors. The cubic forms have various inclusions in the cores. This mineral comes from the collection of the noted Young Mineral Collectors member Zhang Jingnan. An added bonus of this association is the ability to rest organically in various orientations without the need of a base. The piece is somewhat like a toy from a game of jacks, and the crystals do look like dice.
    Measurements: 3.86 x 2.88 x 2.70 inches (9.80 x 7.32 x 6.85 cm)

    Provenance: Ex. Zhang Jingnan Collection
