    Description

    Fluorapophyllite
St Andreasberg, St Andreasberg District, Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany

"A stalactite of pink apophyllite crystals to about two cm. The apophyllite crystals show mostly pyramid faces but only a little prism. I have never seen another stalactite of this material. I traded this specimen from the George Vaux collection at Bryn Mawr College near Philadelphia when Harold Arndt was curator of the collections there."
    - Rock H. Currier

Not being a Silver mineral, it's hardly surprising that there aren't all that many like this one. It would have been seen by many a miner as a curiosity, rather than as a inherently valuable/collectible mineral. Germany does have Zeolites, some like this one are quite respectable, but that is not what the country is known for. Which would make this one an excellent way to broaden a European collection, or a Zeolite based one. Vaux obtained this specimen in 1923 from Ward's Scientific. There is a custom labeled base and the original Vaux labels that accompany this lot.
