    Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb
    Oshikoto Region (Otjikoto Region)

Here is a simply remarkable Dioptase specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. This material is known for its amazing rich greenish coloration and gemmy luster. This collector example is not lacking in that department as there are hundreds of deep emerald green crystals displaying a most amazing glassy nature. There is a good mix of small, medium and large crystals, with the majority being cubic and well-formed, and the largest crystal measuring 1.31 cm on the diagonal. These well-formed crystals have unbelievably sharp edges and faces allowing the vitreous "gemmy" crystals to light up when viewed. This is a matrix specimen, but there is very little visible matrix as the Dioptase crystals cover most every square inch of the surface. For its size and quality, this is a superlative specimen of a very popular variety from THE most famous locality for the type. This specimen has been in a private collection for decades and is only now gracing the market again. For those "old school" collectors, the specimen originated from the legendary Julius and Miriam Zweibel.
    Overall Measurements: 3.76 x 2.81 x 1.33 inches (9.56 x 7.13 x 3.37 cm)

Provenance: Upper Crust Fine Minerals, Ex. Julius and Miriam Zweibel

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]

    Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.
