    Denton Cooley Signed Book
    Harry Minetree
Cooley: The Career of a Great Heart Surgeon
    First Edition

Dr. Denton Cooley was a legend in the annals of cardiovascular surgery ranking among of the likes of Dr. Christiaan Barnard who performed the first human heart transplant and the great Dr. Michael DeBakey who developed the artificial heart with whom he had a rivalry spanning over 40 years. In fact, Cooley's most notable achievement - the first artificial heart transplant - ignited their medical feud. Prior to his legendary medical career, Cooley was a basketball star at the University of Texas where he was a 3-year varsity player in Austin. This offering consists of a First Edition of the book "COOLEY' by Harry Minetree that is not only signed by Dr. Denton Cooley but includes a sketch of the human heart, which he rarely drew. Denton Cooley autographs are scarce, and the combination with a sketch makes this a treasure. The hardcover published in 1973 by Harper's Magazine Press is in good condition and comes in a color dust jacket that is lightly tattered with a tear on the spine and exhibits some marks on the back photo.

Harper's Magazine Press: New York [1973], First Edition, inscribed by Denton A. Cooley M.D. on flyleaf page next to heart drawing.
