    Description

    CLASSIC AMMONITE
    Sphenodiscus lenticularis
    Cretaceous
    Near Rapid City, South Dakota

Sphenodiscus is another classic Ammonite featuring intricate suture patterns and remnants of the marginally located siphuncle which are two characteristics both diagnostic to its classification as an Ammonite. The Ammonite terminates into some of original rock matrix that it was deposited in. There are indications of stabilization on the reverse side of the specimen, a common occurance in fossil preparation. The display side is very fine with only minor hints of repair. The shell nacre on the reverse side demonstrates iridescence and shows greens, yellows and pinks as light hits various sections. This specimen was collected in 1975 on the Cheyenne River near Rapid City.It measures 9.5 x 7 inches (24.13 x 17.78 cm).Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Private Texas Collection, Self Collected in 1975
