Mammoth-St Anthony Mine, St. Anthony Deposit, Tiger, Mammoth District, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA

"A cluster with many bright dark turquoise colored celadonite [sic] crystals on matrix. There are only few specimens that can rival this one. I have seen less than six as good. I got this specimen in 1971 when Jack Streeter sold me his best Tiger things. I paid him $500 for all of them. Jack was a traveling salesman and part of his territory allowed him to visit the mine at Tiger periodically and he had enough money to buy some of the good specimens from the miners."
    - Rock H. Currier

It is a pity that Caledonite forms under very restricted conditions, because the luscious turquoise-blue color is truly a delight to behold. Sad to say, this narrow range of chemical constraints has resulted in but a few localities for the mineral, and typically only small crystals in the bargain. Tiger is one of the few sources, anywhere in the world, of excellent examples and the one offered here is exceptional for that locality. It has a custom acrylic stand.
