    Description

    Bournonite
Yaogangxian Mine, Yaogangxian W-Sn ore field, Yizhang Co.
    Chenzhou, Hunan
    China

With its amazing and its iconic "cogwheel" shape, this outstanding Bournonite consists of joined "twins" wrapped around a Quartz matrix. The contrast of the silvery, metallic mineral against the stark white of its rocky perch is inherently sublime. The massive specimen is unusually elegant in form and has a most distinctive shape. Presented with a custom engraved acrylic base, the example is from an "older" find in the 1990s. This mineral appeared in the "Crystalline Treasures of China" book Page 67 and was included in the exhibition of the same name at the University of Arizona in 2013 that opened in conjunction with the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show that year. This piece has a rough aspect to both the Bournonite and its Quartz anchor, so both varieties display some rugged edges, but the specimen is in fine overall condition with just the components having experience some wear and weathering. The highly aesthetic offering is supremely collectible and exhibits incredible form. A bonus is its big Quartz crystal is robust and layered.
    Measurements: 2.78 x 2.41 x 2.33 inches (7.05 x 6.11 x 5.92 cm)

    Provenance: Ex. Robert Lavinsky Collection
