Description

Azurite

Azurite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia

"A cluster of sharp shiny terminated azurite crystals in parallel growth. The largest crystal is about two inches tall with some of the azurite in its center altering to malachite. Traded this specimen from the George Vaux collection in Bryn Mawr college near Philadelphia when Harold Arndt was curator. This is one of the fine specimens that Sam Gordon brought back from Tsumeb in 1921 that he collected in the mine."
- Rock H. Currier

There are a number of Tsumeb Azurites around with fine esthetics. Few can boast about a chain of provenance as detailed and direct as this one. Now that the Mine is a 3000' deep swimming pool, there won't be any more coming from anything but collections. This sharp, deep-blue, lustrous Azurite group is about as good as it gets ... and it's got pedigree to boot, dating back to the very early days of Tsumeb! It has a custom acrylic base as well as the original Vaux label.
