    Ammonite Fossil
    Cleoniceras sp.

This striking specimen measures nearly 11 inches (28 cm) at maximum dimension, and is not only a decorative piece, but also an important fossil. The massive Ammonite exhibits an amazing golden-brown coloration punctuated by pronounced complex suture lines diagnostic of the unique cephalopod variety. The ancient shell displays a fine polish on both sides resulting in a smooth surface over the artistic form, which happens to be, essentially, a naturally occurring representation of the Fibonacci sequence, known as the "Golden Ratio" in mathematics. Replacement by Calcite adds further appeal to this breathtakingly attractive example. There are some minor fill areas near the edge of the periphery, and one dark spot on the secondary side exhibiting substantial fill, which, at least theoretically, could represent a Mosasaur bite.
    Overall Measurements: 10.63 x 9.25 x 2.19 inches (27.00 x 23.50 x 5.55 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]

While I regret my inability to personally view the work, you provided an excellent substitute for my not being able to do so, and I look forward to future Heritage auctions.
