    Description

    Ammonite Fossil
    Cleoniceras sp.
    Cretaceous
    Madagascar

The most obvious quality of this extremely attractive polished Ammonite specimen is the abundance of intricate complex suture lines over the entirety of the glossy caramel brown shell. This sizable example, measuring some 8 inches (20 cm), is simply beautiful, as the leafy pattern over the crystalline surface is significant and fascinating. Prehistoric cephalopods all went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous as did all of the Dinosaurs. The whorl of the fossil exhibits patches of iridescence due to preservation of an amount of the original shell nacre. This "finished" fossil is incredibly attractive and decorative and is one fine representative of the classification. Ammonites have often been considered to represent a Golden Ratio of Leonardo Da Vinci's Principle of Divine Proportion, and it is easy to see why with such naturally artistic specimens like this spectacular fossil. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," and this is a looker!
    Overall Measurements: 7.80 x 6.69 x 1.59 inches (19.80 x 17.00 x 4.04 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
