    Description

    Amethyst
    Fengjiashan Mine (Daye copper mine)
    Daye Co., Huangshi, Hubei
    China

While Fluorites may be more synonymous with Chinese localities than Amethyst, the purple variety of Quartz does come out of the Fengjiashan Copper Mine. This outstanding specimen represents a single isolated crystal with excellent faces, form and luster on a highly contrasting granular matrix which is in itself an uncommon occurrence. Presented on a custom engraved acrylic base, this striking example is nearly pristine with only some minor damage to the pointed tip and near the base, which features the unique attribute of a geometric bottom, with flat edges forming the base of the triangular crystal. The highly translucent material displays an appealing royal purple hue and offers some complex inclusions. The host matrix sparkles with a relatively colorful drusy crystalline coating which frames the Amethyst.
    Measurements: 4.82 x 3.74 x 3.01 inches (12.24 x 9.51 x 7.64 cm)

    Provenance: Ex. Robert Lavinsky Collection

While I regret my inability to personally view the work, you provided an excellent substitute for my not being able to do so, and I look forward to future Heritage auctions.
