    Allende Meteorite Slice
    Stony, Carbonaceous Chondrite (Type III)
    Pueblito de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico (26° 58'N, 105° 19'W)
    Witnessed Fall: February 8, 1969, 7h05m GMT

This thick slab of Allende meteorite has been sawn cut on both sides to reveal the complete and colorful internal structure of this carbonaceous chondrite, but, unlike most other meteorite slices, this example has not been polished on either side giving it a more rustic and tactile texture. The inclusions are vibrant and visible, highlighted by white calcium-aluminum inclusions (CAIs) thought to be the oldest crystallized material in the solar system and thus dating back to its origin. The thick sides of this overall greenish hued specimen are a burned black resulting in a sharp edging to the two-sided meteorite weighing 146 grams.
    Overall Measurements: 4.24 x 2.48 x 0.41 inches (10.77 x 6.30 x 1.03 cm), weighs 146 grams

    Provenance: Central Coast Collection

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
