    Description

    "Gem" Ammonite Fossil
    Placenticeras sp.
    Cretaceous
    Bearpaw Formation
    Southern Alberta, Canada

Sections of fossil Ammonite shells that have preserved as Ammolite are prized for their brilliant colors and unique appearance. Most are relatively simple with one or more colors of a smooth surface. This unusual specimen not only has an array of bright hues but also the entire whorl of an Ammonite shell that rises up from the rest of piece like a natural design element. The bold spiral aspect looks a bit like an individual gastropod but is simply the genesis of the pattern that spins across the fossil, which is full of color including typical greens, reds and golds. This singular piece also displays rare blues and purples.
    Overall Measurements: 4.63 x 3.05 x 1.88 inches (11.77 x 7.74 x 4.77 cm)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
