Miner's Art: Rutilated Quartz Encrusted Iron Teapot (Proceeds to benefit mindat.org)
Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil

Rock coveted the unusual and the weird, and he was always looking for things to bring back home as mementos from his mineral adventure travels. This cast iron tea kettle certainly qualifies. It is festooned with hundreds (hundreds!) of Rutilated Quartz crystals, covering every possible surface. It is certainly from Novo Horizonte, the primary source of Rutilated Quartz. WHEN Rock bought this, is certainly a mystery-there are no mentions of it in his catalog-but it was probably purchased in the 1970s or 1980s. WHY he bought it is also a mystery ... why would you? A cast iron teapot is heavy enough as it is but then to add Quartz crystals to it makes it even heavier. But it obviously tickled his fancy ... and its sale probably delighted the "artist" that created it.

Proceeds from this lot will go to mindat.org, Rock's favorite organization.
