"PREHISTORIC AQUATIC SCULPTURE"

Artist Statement:
I create sculpture that incorporates natural history items such as fossilized fish, ammonites, trilobites, and meteorites. I do this in a way that invokes the perception of motion and life into inanimate objects that were once alive tens of millions of years ago. I utilize various metalworking techniques to transform my visions into reality.

"Prehistoric Aquatic Sculpture":
This "kelp garden" of steel is home to four authentic fossilized fish belonging to three different species. They swim among black steel blades of seaweed, attached by magnets, so that individuals may create their own seascape. The base of the sculpture is formed of distressed flat steel with plasma cut edging. The "kelp" is hand forged and designed to simulate the effects of the ocean currents. A fossilized Italian crab completes the tableau, where it is magnetically attached to the base.
