    An American Gilman Joslin Terrestrial Library Globe on Stand, circa 1869

    The globe having approximately 16 inch diameter, hand-colored steel-engraved map, titled on horizon ring IMPROVED GLOBE, BOSTON, MANUFACTURED BY GILMAN JOSLIN CORRECTED TO DATE and Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1852 by Charles Copley , brass meridian ring and wooden horizon deck with applied degrees, calendar, and zodiac periods, globe set within painted wood stand.

    This floor model terrestrial globe was one of two iterations of this particular model by Joslin, having a celestial globe counterpart. The globe's original creator, Charles Copley, was awarded a gold medal for his terrestrial and celestial globes from the American Institute in 1852. The globes were originally retailed by E& G.W. Blunt in New York, who also retailed this updated re-issue.

    Scattered surface staining, abraisions from wheel contact, some chipping to wood and paper to horizon deck, stand may be of later vintage, minor age-related cracking to stand, with wear commensurate with age and use.
