Description
Red BerylRuby Violet claims, Beaver County, Utah, USA
1.7 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm (0.67 x 0.59 x 0.47 in)
The color and sharp euhedral form that Red Beryl typically crystallizes as are the two defining features of the variety. Accent these two desirable attributes with a contrasting white backdrop and you see why so many collectors will vie for this small but profound variety of Beryl. Much of this lovely thumbnail consists of a single well-formed hexagonal crystal, reaching a respectable 1.4 centimeters in height, aesthetically presented atop a minor amount of white rhyolitic matrix. A handful of smaller aggregates are present along one side of the primary crystal. Much of the Red Beryl is included by Rhyolite, giving the mineral's iconic gooseberry red color a more opaque pink hue. Especially towards one side of the specimen, the side faces of the main crystal are lightly blanketed by flecks of Rhyolite, giving one view of the piece a mild textured surface.
More Information: This piece is in excellent condition with only a couple natural contacts from the previously surrounding host rock.
