Schact 137, Tropperstollnsohle, Sina Vein, Wolkenstein, Marienberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany

Although this particular specimen's locality isn't in doubt, it doesn't hurt to clarify that issue and become a little more specific. The "Sima Vein" is self-explanatory, but the term "Tropperstollen/Tropperstollnsohle" might be a bit opaque for non-German speaking collectors. It means the "bottom of the Tropper Stope or gallery," so the accurate translation in English would be "Shaft 137, lower Tropper Stope, Sina Vein." There are very few localities around the globe that have yielded Native Silver specimens even remotely like this one. Feathery, dendritic structures rise from a dark matrix of Native Arsenic and Calcite. Looking down on the specimen, a parallel arrangement of these "feathers" suggests that the Silver grew along parallel fractures in the host matrix. The specimen shows the patina typical of Native Silver, and the piece is in excellent overall condition.
