    Description

    ELBAITE & QUARTZ
San Piero in Campo, Campo nell'Elba, Elba Island, Livorno Province, Tuscany, Italy

San Piero has been known for its pale golden and colorless Tourmalines with black terminations at one end, for as long as Elba has been producing them. Normally, the black and often distinctively 'fuzzy' terminations are at the opposite ends from their attachment points. Here, we have a reversed version of that format - the dark brown-black coloration is at the basal areas of the three crystals clinging to their colorless Quartz matrix. The dark brown color rapidly fades to a pale gold before going colorless at the terminations. The largest of the three measures 1.14 x 0.23 inches (2.9 x 0.6 cm). Only one crystal shows a break and luster is quite glassy. Condition is fine to excellent for this unusual thumbnail Tourmaline specimen.
    Overall measurements: 0.7 x 1.1 x 0.9 inches (1.8 x 2.9 x 2.4 cm)
