    TOURMALINE
    Momeik Township, Kyaukme District, Shan State, Myanmar (Burma)

    Momeik Tourmalines don't tend to form multi-crystalline aggregates, but that doesn't stop the locality from throwing a curve ball once in a while, such as this one. It is a flat group that shows very weird fan-shaped aggregates of coarsely trigonal form, radiating outward from single, black points and shifting color to colorless, then pink becoming magenta at a multitude of terminations. Under incandescent light the magenta becomes a deep, cherry red. Typical Momeik style of irregular surfaces and form, with only traces of some matrix material of unidentifiable composition. The condition is excellent to pristine for this very odd example of Tourmaline.
