Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania

Tanzanite has made it to the big time: being hawked on late night "infomercials" of dubious value. That doesn't mean the gem isn't a great addition to the color palette of your local jeweler, far from it. Tanzanite offers that wonderfully attractive combination of Sapphire blue and Amethystine purple. This feature is really obvious when you rotate this crystal in 90-degree increments. Most owners of Tanzanite have never seen the kind of crystals their gem was cut from. Here is a chance to rectify that situation. The loose, single crystal seen here is 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) high and has a number of gemmy areas that would yield faceted gemstones. The crystal has several complex terminal faces and shows glassy luster. Some nicks to edges; otherwise, it is in fine condition, and comes with a custom base.
    Overall Measurements: 2.5 x 0.7 x 0.5 inches (6.4 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex. J. Mark Fisher Collection
