Príbram, Central Bohemia Region, Bohemia, Czech Republic

Silver forms compounds (not alloys) with several other metals: Mercury, Selenium, Tellurium and Antimony being just some of them. The Silver-Antimony compound Ag3Sb is found in nature as Dyscrasite, which reaches its apogee in the radiating crystal groups from Pribram in the Czech Republic. Due to changing geological conditions, the Antimony portion of the compound was leached from the crystals leaving virtually pure Silver as the residue while retaining the overall form of the Dyscrasite. The fan-shaped groups seen here are partially embedded in a white matrix of considerable weight, leading one to think that it is possibly Baryte. The Silver shows an oddly textured exterior with a metallic black patina. Condition is pristine with no visible damage.
    Overall Measurements: 3.0 x 3.0 x 2.53 inches (7.7 x 7.78 x 6.45 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Ex. Hoppel Collection #D1783, ex. Keith Proctor
