Description
Shattuckite, Malachite in QuartzKandesei, Opuwo Rural, Kunene Region, Namibia
7.7 x 5.0 x 4.7 cm (3.02 x 1.98 x 1.81 in)
Normally, Shattuckite that is as finely crystallized as this specimen would not stand the test of time. However, due to the deep vug shape in which the Shattuckite formed, the tiny fur-like crystals have been perfectly preserved to this day. Peering into this mini pocket will give you a glimpse into a shimmering, deep-blue blanket of Velvet, preserved in what is possibly a negative cast of a Calcite crystal that once formed in the Quartz matrix, and was later dissolved by solutions in the pocket of which this piece precipitated. Deep in the innermost corner of the Shattuckite cave is a small fibrous crystal of Malachite, a sweet little accent to the blue mineral. Even the grey Quartz matrix itself appears to have some staining or microcrystalline inclusion of Shattuckite, resulting in soft clouds of blue permeating through the Quartz.
