    Description

    Rhodochrosite
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima, Peru

"A 2.75 inch brown stalactite with slightly prismatic sharp red rhodochrosite crystals to about a cm growing here and there on it. ?"
    - Rock H. Currier

When discussions about Rhodochrosite localities arise, two Peruvian mining camps always come to mind: one is Pasto Bueno and the other is Uchucchacua; a name fit to shatter spelling bee entrants smug confidence right out of the starting gate. Unlike the Pasto Bueno material, the Uchucchacua crystals tend to be reminiscent of Hotazel, or Santa Eulalia, in both form and color: more 'toothy' and less rhombic. The matrix tends to be darker, sometimes almost black. Here it appears as a stalactite of an atypical light brown color, with several lustrous reddish stubby prisms perched upon its upper reaches. There is a custom acrylic base for this Peruvian wonder.
    Overall Measurements: 2.8 x 1.1 x 0.9 inches (7.0 x 2.8 x 2.2 cm)
    Offered at no reserve
