Description

Quartz with "Brown Phantoms"
Minas Gerais, Brazil

"A [sic] over polished quartz crystal showing multiple, regularly spaced sequential brown crystals from one end of the crystal to the other. Thee [sic] is a littl [sic] green coloration on some of the polished crystal faces which is the green chromium oxide polishing compound that the cutter did nor [sic] remove after polishing the crystal."

- Rock H. Currier

Beyond all of the typo's which are just typical of Rock's deranged talent for spelling, his overuse of the term: "over polished" is the most glaring faux pas that he consistently uses as a descriptor. He never explains what point it is that he's trying to make. "Over polished" means that the crystal has had the faces ground flat, then polished, so that the crystal still held its original shape. Rock worked with Osorio and the cutters to get this point across so that the final product looked like the original crystal. Welcome to "Currier Speak." Language aside, the piece is a stunning marriage between nature and art. The "phantom" areas are perfectly aligned in machine-like precision and the polishing allows those fabulous inclusions free access to the viewer's eye. This is a double dose of perfection.
