Anjanabonoina Pegmatites, Ambohimanambola Commune, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra Region, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar

Phenakite should be the official mineral of politicians everywhere, because the name comes from the Greek word: phenakos meaning 'deceiver' in reference to the fact that it was often mistaken for Quartz, which it closely resembles. Oddly enough, that resemblance is incorporated in this rather unusual matrix Phenakite specimen. Normally, Phenakite crystals are broken/pried from the host rock to be sold to credulous crystal worshipers seeking to contact Angels and Ascended Masters in their free time: something the miners seem to be missing out on. Thanks to those same miners, we have a rare example of a double terminated Phenakite that is still in the matrix Quartz that formed around it. The colorless Phenakite shows glassy luster, excellent form, and none of the 1.8 inch (4.5 cm) long crystal shows any damage. Since this specimen is all about the undamaged Phenakite, condition is pristine. As an added lagniappe, there is a tiny bit of blue-green Amazonite on the side of the piece. Amazonite is "particularly helpful if you sometimes find it difficult to tell the truth." This is an interesting concept in concert with the Phenakite.
