Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Here is an excellent specimen of this rarely encountered Arsenate mineral, featuring sharp, deep-green crystals of Olivenite up to 6 mm across nestled into hollow areas in a mixed matrix of Bayldonite, Malachite and massive Olivenite. This fine specimen was illustrated in the Encyclopedia of Minerals. Few localities produce crystals of Olivenite of any size, much less the large and perfect ones seen here. Luster is vitreous, and the condition of the Olivenite is pristine with the only breakage limited to the periphery where the specimen was attached to the wall rock. It is in excellent condition and accompanied by a custom base.
    Overall Measurements: 2.5 x 2.57 x 1.41 inches (6.37 x 6.54 x 3.59 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Color Illustration: Roberts, Willard Lincoln, et al. Encyclopedia of Minerals, 2nd Edition. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Co., 1990. Color Plate 31.

    Provenance: Collector's Edge [Hoppel #D1351]

It would indeed have been much simpler to work with a local auction house, and we had local options. But we never once regretted going with Heritage.
